Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Early Career Academic Grants 2021 for Developing Countries

Early Career Academic Grants are open to early career academics employed by ACU member universities, enabling them to participate in a conference held in a Commonwealth country other than their own.
The conference to be attended must be a recognised academic conference in a field relevant to the applicant’s area of expertise in a country other than the applicant’s country of employment. Applicants must give full details of their chosen conference at the time of application.
Applications will be strengthened by the applicant providing evidence of the submission/acceptance of a paper or poster, or other communication with the conference organisers. Proof of a paper submission/acceptance or other communication must be attached to the application form.

Requirements for ACU Early Career Academic Grants
Applicants must:
- Be employed by an ACU member university as a lecturer, post-doctoral researcher, professor, associate professor, or equivalent
- Be within seven years of the start of their academic (research/teaching) career
- Have previously never travelled for work purposes (including conferences) outside their region of employment since the start of their academic career. Please see this page for the definition of regions.

As part of the application form, applicants must:
- Provide details of their chosen conference, including a copy of their abstract
- Choose the Sustainable Development Goal(s) which relate most closely to their research and describe how their research can contribute to achieving these goals
- Explain the reasons for their choice of conference and how it will benefit their career goals
- Explain how they will share the knowledge gained by participating in the conference
- Attach a detailed letter or email of support from their head of department
