NAIST welcomes applications from highly motivated individuals seeking a world-class, inter-disciplinary graduate education based on information, biological, or materials sciences. Promising candidates are welcomed regardless of their nationality or their research background during undergraduate studies.

The university also welcomes scientists, engineers and others currently engaged in research who demonstrate a unique enthusiasm for scientific pursuit. More than 250 students from overseas are currently studying at NAIST, and the number of applicants from around the world continues to grow. For outstanding individuals, scholarships are available from the Japanese government as well as from private sources. NAIST also offers comprehensive living support for international students, including on-campus accommodation.

Benefits of NAIST Postgraduate Scholarship

The NAIST International Scholarship includes the following:

• Overseas travel expenses from the recipient’s country to Japan
• Employment as a research assistant
• Enrollment fee
• Tuition
• Other support deemed necessary by the President of NAIST

Requirements for NAIST Postgraduate Scholarship

• The applicants must be a privately financed international students, and
• The applicant must have passed the Screening of International Students by Special Recommendation and will be enrolled in a doctoral course at NAIST.
• The number of the NAIST International Scholarship recipients is set each year by the President of NAIST according to the university’s financial situation.
• Scholarship Term: The term of the NAIST International Scholarship is limited to three years from the date of enrollment in a NAIST doctoral course. However, support will not be provided during leaves of absence from school.

Selection Process

Screening is conducted by the NAIST Board of Education and approved by the President of NAIST.
