Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia and Leipzig University in Germany jointly offer a two year MA program AND a three year PhD Program that takes Africa at its heart. Get immersed in an interdisciplinary and intercultural
environment that provides you with knowledge and skills required on a global job market. The program takes place in Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa and includes an organized semester at Leipzig University, center of excellence for research on processes of globalization and area studies.

- Applicants are encouraged to seek financial support / a scholarship from sources such as government institutions, employers, donor institutions or non-governmental organisation
- Partial DAAD scholarships and fee waivers are possible depending the study results
Requirements for Universität Leipzig Masters Scholarship
We are looking for talented students who finished their first academic degree (Bachelor) in social science, political science, history, international relations, law, humanities and economics with good or very good results. Students applying for this programme should have an interest in peace and security and global affairs.

- Match of previous degree with our Master’s course

- Partial DAAD scholarships and fee waivers are possible depending study results
Requirements for Universität Leipzig PhD Scholarship
- Proof of an above-average certificate of higher education which qualifies for PhD studies (Master or recognized equivalent from an accredited higher education institution)
- An exposé for a PhD dissertation (not exceeding 3.500 words) which presents the research question and approach, including an analysis of the state of the art
- A three-year working plan including finances and logistics
- Two letters of reference by professors, lecturers or employers
- Chronological curriculum vitae
- A letter with personal statement
- Proof of nationality (copy of passport)
- If the previous degree was not awarded by a university that uses English as language of instruction: proof of sufficient English skills
